Medicare Coverage of AVONEX® (Interferon beta-1a)
December 19, 2002

What's new?

On May 15, 2002, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that Medicare would provide coverage for certain injectable drugs that are usually considered not to be self-administered by the patient. AVONEX is one of these injectable drugs that will now be covered by Medicare. These drugs will be covered for reimbursement by Medicare if they are administered in a doctor's office "incident to physician services".

How can I find more about Medicare reimbursement of AVONEX?

Anyone with questions about AVONEX Medicare coverage may call MS Active Source at
1-800-456-2255, Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM - 8:00 PM EDT.

Information provided by Biogen, Inc., makers of the multiple sclerosis therapy AVONEX. Please see full prescribing information at www.AVONEX.com or call 800-456-2255.

New Center Policy
November 2002

Due to rising costs at the MS Center (personnel, postage, telephone, etc. and lower rates of reimbursement from insurance carriers) we have a new policy at the MS Center.

As of January 1, 2003, there will be a $15.00 charge for each disability form that we are asked to complete. You will be asked to pay this charge each time you submit a form completion along with a stamped, self-addressed envelope. There will be no exceptions to this policy and forms will not be completed unless the center receives payment for our additional work.
